Faces of WISEST: Stefanie Lee

As a former WISEST Summer Research Program student, the experience was instrumental in paving the way for my further involvement in research, science, and university life - including UA-WiSE and other WISEST programs which connected me to others with similar interests, and allowed me the opportunity to develop skills in teaching and mentoring more junior students.

I have ultimately specialized in medical imaging, another field where women are underrepresented (<30%). During my training, I was part of a team researching the factors behind this gender disparity. In 2015, I began a career in McMaster's Department of Radiology, and now administer a departmental program aimed at increasing early exposure for students and providing opportunities to interact with role models, with the hope that we can address common misconceptions and ensure students are able to make informed career decisions.
