The Alberta School of Business at the University of Alberta has established itself as one of the world’s leading institutions of business education and research. It’s recognized for its leadership and research, quality of academic programming, graduate career success and economic impact for Alberta — and the world.

The School fosters and supports an environment where innovation and entrepreneurial thinking is free to flourish, which is in no small part thanks to the School’s support from alumni, corporations, foundations and partners.

One of those such partners is CPA Alberta, which has recently committed to a $1 million gift that supports a sponsorship agreement for virtual events like the School’s Eric Geddes Lecture Series (the most recent of which featured engaging discussions on The Digital Transformation and The Future of Work) and a construction pledge to support the CPA Alberta Community Space, an event and study space in the future Carruthers Student Commons

“The Alberta School of Business has a record and legacy of generating some of the best graduates in the field of accounting and business, and CPA Alberta is honoured and pleased to provide a gift that will help support and cultivate the next generation of Chartered Professional Accountants (CPAs) and business leaders in the province,” says Rachel Miller, CEO of CPA Alberta.

Centrally located in the commons, the CPA Alberta Community Space will host events like student orientations, career fairs, lectures/panels and student club mixers. When it’s not in use for events, it will be available as a space for students to study and collaborate with their classmates and peers.

“Innovation and the CPA profession have always gone hand in hand, and great ideas are generated when innovative minds come together. The opportunities for engagement and connection created in and by the CPA Alberta Community Space will have lasting impacts for students as they graduate and make their mark in the province,” says Miller.

CPA Alberta is a long-standing partner with the Alberta School of Business. The School is among Canada’s leading post-secondary business faculties when it comes to educating students and preparing them for success in the accounting profession, and many of the 30,000 CPAs in Alberta are U of A alumni.

Supporting post-secondary business students has long been a priority for CPA Alberta. Not only will many business graduates go on to pursue their CPA designation and become leaders in the province, but CPAs have always been at the forefront of change and helping businesses plan for the future.

“CPA Alberta knows firsthand that students can and already do make immeasurable contributions as leaders on campus and in their communities, and we are pleased to facilitate those critical opportunities to learn, grow, and develop into stronger leaders during the early stages,” says Miller.
