Map the System 2022
Map the System is a global competition hosted by the University of Oxford that challenges students to think differently about social and environmental change.
Unlike traditional business pitch competitions, students are not judged by their proposed solutions, but rather on their depth of understanding of the challenge they want to address.

Prizes
The top 4 Canadian teams will receive an invitation to compete in the Global Map the System competition at Oxford University.
Eligibility & Registration
Who is Eligible to Participate?
- Individuals or teams of up to 5 people
- At least one member of the team must be a current student at the University of Alberta, or a recent graduate (having completed studies within 12 months of registering for the competition)
- Students may be at diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate or doctoral level in any discipline
How Do I Pick My Team/or Participate Individually?
- Reach out to classmates and friends
- Make a short presentation in class to share your involvement and search for teammates
- Connect with clubs or groups where you are a member or that are relevant to your issue area
- Talk to your professors and TA’s. Remember your teammates do not have to be current students
How Do I Register?
- Fill out the online registration form on the Map the System Canada website
- Submit your proposed topic
- List all team members
- Register by January 31, 2022

- University of Alberta written submission date - April 3, 2022 @11:59 pm
- University of Alberta presentation finals date - April 9, 2022 (virtual)
- The Canadian finals date - May 11-13, 2022 (virtual)
- Oxford Global finals - June 16-19, 2022 (in-person)
Submission Details
Visual Systems Map
- Present findings in a visual ecosystem
- Suggested formats: PowerPoint, Prezi, PDF, or JPG
Analysis of Research
- Maximum 3,000 words (excluding footnotes and citations) analyzing the research and key findings
- Microsoft Word or PDF format
Bibliography
- Thorough citation of diverse sources - should include academic and non-academic sources
- Any citation format
