WCUCC 2023

The UofA Chemistry Students’ Association hosted the 35th Western Canadian Undergraduate Chemistry Conference (WCUCC 2023), on May 2-5, 2023.

This year, WCUCC 2023 attracted nearly 130 participants from more than 20 institutions across Western Canada. Seventy-five presenters gave poster and/or oral presentations. Our Department faculty members, Alex Brown, Lara Mahal, and Ran Zhao gave plenary talks. UAlberta alumnus and PhD graduate of the Harynuk group, Robin Abel, gave an invited talk. A career panel took place on the last day of WCUCC, where Jon Veinot and four former UofA graduates participated.

Conference attendees also took part in many social events, including a mixer, a gala night, and a barbeque. The gala night was hosted at the Dinwoodie Lounge, which involved a night of networking and miggling. Jon Veinot and Melis Gedik gave inspirational speeches at the gala.

The UofA was well represented at the conference, with 20 students presenting their work, receiving six awards. Congratulations to the UofA students listed below, along with all participants:
