Student Achievements

The 2008 FSAE team placed second in fuel efficiency, fifth in acceleration and 15th overall competing against teams from 75 universities. The 21-member interdisciplinary student group is made up of volunteers who participate in the project on their own time, outside of their rigorous study schedules.

University of Alberta Engineering students make the most of opportunities to take the knowledge they learn in their classes and co-op placements and apply it to real-world challenges.

Participants in student teams like the U of A Eco-Car, for example, have designed and built experimental vehicles and competed globally against universities from all over the world. Our AlbertaSat student team designed and built Alberta's first satellite, which was launched in 2017.

In academics, community contributions, and athletics, UAlberta engineering students are exceptional. In 2017-18, 19 engineering student-athletes were named Academic All Canadians, maintaining stellar grades and competing at the varsity level.

Engineering students embrace the duty of engineers to make the world a better, safer place, and contribute through participation in groups like Engineers Without Borders, Bridges to Prosperity and Engage North, and through many charitable events organized by the Engineering Students' Society.
