About Me

Qing Zhao received her BSc degree in control engineering from Northeastern University, P. R. China, and the PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Western Ontario, Canada, in July 1993 and October 1999, respectively. She was an assistant professor in the Dept. of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Univ. of Manitoba, Canada, from Oct. 1999 to Sept. 2000. Since September 2000, she has been with the Dept. of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Univ. of Alberta, Canada, where she is currently a professor. During her sabbatical leave from Aug. 2008 to Sept. 2009, Dr. Zhao has visited 2 institutes in Europe. Awarded an international scholar grant (Grant Ouverture Internationale), she was a visiting professor of the Control Engineering Department at Université Libre de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium, from Aug. 2008 to Dec. 2008. From Jan. 2009 to July 2009, she was awarded the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship for Experienced Researchers and was a visiting professor at Univ. of Duisburg-Essen, Duisburg, Germany. She also holds a guest professorship at Shandong University, China. From 2011- 2013, she was a Project 985 Distinguished Overseas Scholar at Northeastern University, China. She has been a member of IEEE, AIAA, ISA and she is a registered professional engineer in Canada. She has served several technical and professional committees, including the member of the Board of Examiner of Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), Canada, panel member of Strategic Grant Selection Panel of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada, and international committee member of China Automation Association (CAA) Technical Committee on Fault Diagnosis and Safety of Technical Processes, etc.
