About Me

Yasser Abdel-Rady I. Mohamed received the B.Sc. (with honors) and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt in 2000 and 2004, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON, Canada, in 2008. In September 2009, he joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Alberta, where now he holds the rank of Full Professor.

Dr. Mohamed is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE); Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics and IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics; Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid and IEEE Transactions on Power Systems; and a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta.


Research

Research Interests

  • Dynamics and controls of power converters with applications to distributed and renewable generation, energy storage, converter-fed networks and motor drives
  • Planning, operation, energy management, and control of microgrids and active distribution systems 
  • Grid integration of distributed and renewable energy resources (e.g., wind and photovoltaic systems)
  • Smart grids
