Rija Kamran

2023-2024 Term

Biography:

Born in Pakistan, Rija obtained her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree in 2019. After graduation she began working in Neurological rehabilitation, working with people who have chronic neurological conditions like stroke, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis among others. Rija is committed to advocating for students rights and promoting positive change. 

Resume:

Rija currently works with people who have Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) in community-based participatory research, that keeps community and people at the center of decision making. During the past two years, she has served as a councillor for the International Students’ Association (ISA) at the University of Alberta and as the department representative for the Rehabilitation Medicine Students’ Association (RMSA). She has also served on the Dean’s selection committee and awards committee in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. This work has allowed Rija to connect with graduate students across different faculties to advocate for them. This is Rija’s first term as Vice-President Academic with the GSA.
