Hamid Hassani

2023-2024 Term


Hamid is a dedicated and accomplished individual with a proven leadership record and a successful track record. During his undergraduate studies, he served as the Head of the Student Astronomical Society and was a member of the Society of Physics Students. Their hard work and dedication paid off when the society was elected as the best student society in both research and outreach activities.


As a Ph.D. student of Physics at the University of Alberta, Hamid studies the formation of massive stars in the local universe and how dust grains impact the evolution of galaxies. With his passion for scientific research, astronomy and the James Webb Space Telescope, he has authored a paper titled "PHANGS-JWST First Results: The 21μm Compact Source Population," showcasing his expertise in the field. This is Hamid’s first term as Vice-President External with the GSA.
