Description: Leadership development programs designed to enhance both individual and organizational learning is one approach to achieving organizational development and enhanced performance. The Alberta Cancer Board (ACB) identified leadership, staff training and development as priority goals in both 2002 and 2004 business plans and are dedicated to promote the development and implementation of a province-wide Leadership Development Initiative (LDI).

Objectives: This is a multidisciplinary health services research project which examines the outcomes of a cohort-based (communities of practice) leadership development initiative in a provincial cancer agency. This study will describe the experience of cohort-based leadership development and identify resulting measurable outcomes of leadership development aimed to improve the quality of worklife for leaders and healthcare providers.
