Signup Procedures

All RP appointments must be scheduled using the online RP system available through your eClass course page. Please see eClass for the date and time that the RP system link will be available. You can take part in RP right through to the last day of class. Signups for appointments will close at 8:00 pm (Mountain Time [MT]) on that day. You will not be able to earn RP credit after the last day of class.

In order to ensure that everyone gets a chance to sign up and get started with their appointments, you will be limited to signing up for 3 RP credits until approximately halfway through the term. You can sign up for the remaining 2 credits during the last half of the semester. An email announcement will be sent out through eClass when the remaining 2 credits are available.
Accessing the RP system
  • Access the eClass course page for your PSYCH 104 or 105 class
  • Scroll to the course topic called Research Participation
  • Scroll to the bottom of this section and click the “Enter RP System” link (marked with a blue puzzle piece)
  • Once you are on the main page of the RP system, be sure to read the announcements and notes
  • Click “Manage Appointments” on the bottom left of the page to manage your account
Signing up for appointments
  • Click “Signup for Research Credit” on the top left of the page
  • A list of projects with available appointments will be shown, including their project ID number, project name, type (in-person or online), restrictions, and credit value
  • To view available appointments for a specific project, click “Schedule” on the right-hand side
    • All times in the RP system are Mountain (i.e., Edmonton) Time (MT)
  • Once you have selected an appointment, click on “Details” on the right-hand side of the corresponding row and read the “Restrictions for this project” and “Extra information for this project”
    • Both online and in-person research appointments will be offered. Please read the project details carefully as you are responsible for participating in your appointments at the correct location and time.
    • Please pay close attention to any eligibility restrictions listed (e.g., languages spoken, computer operating system). If you sign up for a study but do not meet the project requirements, you will not be allowed to participate and you will not receive credit.
    • A 1-credit session can take up to 50 minutes to complete and a 2-credit session can take up to 1 hour and 50 minutes to complete. When signing up for appointments, please be sure to allow sufficient time to complete the session. For example, if you have a class that starts at noon, do not sign up for an appointment that starts at 11:30 am that day.
    • Do not sign up for the same project more than once, even in different semesters. The “Check Your Credit Status” page will list your completed projects from previous terms. (Exception: you can repeat the mass testing survey, offered in both Fall and Winter semesters.)
  • Click “Signup”
  • ***IMPORTANT – Confirm that the signup was successful
    • Click “Check Your Credit Status” to confirm that the appointment is listed AND check your UAlberta email account for a signup confirmation email. If the appointment is not listed and you did not receive a signup confirmation email, then you are not signed up for the session. You must repeat the steps above if you wish to sign up for the appointment.
Cancelling appointments

If you are unable to participate in an appointment during the semester for any reason, please cancel through the online RP system up to midnight (MT) the day before your appointment:

  • Click “Cancel Appointment” on the top left of the page
  • Select the appointment that you wish to cancel and click “Details”
  • Click “Yes, Cancel”
  • ***IMPORTANT – Confirm that the cancellation was successful
    • Click “Check Your Credit Status” to confirm that the appointment is no longer listed AND check your UAlberta email account for a cancellation confirmation email. If the appointment is still listed and you did not receive a cancellation confirmation email, then you are still signed up for the session. You must repeat the steps above or contact the RP Coordinator (see below) if you wish to cancel the appointment.
If you need to cancel on the same day due to illness or an urgent matter, please email rescred@ualberta.ca (from your UAlberta email account) or leave a voicemail message at 780-492-5689. Be sure to leave your name, student ID number, appointment name/date/time, and reason for cancellation or else we will not be able to process your request. As long as you have provided sufficient information and contacted us before the appointment deadline or start time, your cancellation will be processed once the RP Coordinator is available.
