Why study this program?

The Honors After-Degree Program is for students who already hold a university degree.

The Honors After-Degree Program provides the same clinical preparation as the After Degree Program, plus the opportunity to gain more in-depth knowledge in an area of research, as well as mentoring by a Faculty of Nursing researcher.

The Honors Program also requires additional coursework. Specifically, the seminar courses “NURS 399 - Selected Topics in Nursing Research” and “NURS 499 - Scholarly Project in Nursing” are required.

We also offer the BScN (Collaborative) program, and the BScN bilingual program.

Why take the BScN after-degree program?

The After-Degree Program is for students who already hold a university degree.

As a university graduate — in any field of study — you have developed critical thinking and analytical skills, additional education and career skills, and life experience, all of which makes you an excellent candidate for this program, and for a career in nursing!

For a complete description of the BScN degree program, see BScN (Collaborative).

The After-Degree can also be taken as an Honors program.

We also offer a BScN bilingual program.

Why study at the University of Alberta?

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree is your pathway to becoming a Registered Nurse (RN), which opens doors to a variety of careers in nursing and beyond. The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta is recognized as one of the top nursing schools in Canada — we are leaders in research and in practice, with many unique clinical placements available. The faculty is housed in the Edmonton Clinic Health Academy, a state-of-the-art health sciences teaching facility adjacent to the University of Alberta Hospital.

“The relational aspect of nursing is incredibly rewarding. How cool is it to learn about someone's lived experience and history while caring for them? Caring through conversation has proven to be one of my favourite things about this profession.”– Aaron is a fourth-year Nursing (Honors) student and the President of the Nursing Undergraduate Association. He is currently completing his final clinical placement, in Accra, Ghana.
