Congratulations to Augustana biology professor Neil Haave, who recently received the 2020 Association of College and University Biology Educators (ACUBE) Excellence in Teaching Award. This award is offered annually to faculty who both practice and promote effective, innovative teaching in the biology classroom.

Selections for this award are based on teaching quality, philosophy and methodology of teaching, service to the teaching profession and scholarship of teaching, service to students, professional growth and endorsement from colleagues and alumni.

In a reference letter for professor Haave, a former student had this to say: “Dr. Haave has never viewed his job as a mere facilitator dumping knowledge transfer into students’ brains. Instead, he always saw himself as a trainer. It was his job to help students build skills necessary for their future success. It is this skill-building mentality that I have directly incorporated into my own teaching philosophy.”

Congratulation, professor Haave!
