Research Through Employment

At Augustana, students are hired to assist professors in completing research or to work on their own research projects. Opportunities include:

Summer research assistantships

Applications for 2022 are now open.

Annually, the Augustana Research Committee holds a competition for several summer research assistantships. The number and disciplinary-specific requirements may shift year-to-year. Students interested in applying for a summer position must:

  1. Identify and contact a sponsoring faculty member. You will discuss the project and the faculty member’s interest in supervising your summer work. A part of each of these awards is also designated to support the on-going research of your supervisor. Discuss what duties and expectations would be entailed in that work in addition to your project.
  2. With the assistance of your sponsoring faculty member, ensure that you meet the qualifications for the Award you are applying for — if you will complete your degree requirements at the end of the academic year, you are not eligible for most of the Awards.
  3. Work with your sponsoring faculty member to complete the application in advance of the due date. The faculty member must submit the application to the Committee for Adjudication. Faculty members may access information and the application form in the Teaching and Research Commons.

Individual faculty members also hire research assistants funded by their research grants. Consult with faculty members directly.
