Funded by Dr. Jean Cooley
Awarded annually to two female students registered full-time in a graduate degree program in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Alberta, whose area of research is Analytical Chemistry. The recipients will be selected on the basis of superior academic achievement (equivalent to a grade point average of 3.5 or greater on the University of Alberta grading scale). Students registered in a master's program are eligible to hold this award during the first two years of their program; students registered in a doctoral program are eligible to hold this award during years one through five of their program. The scholarship may be held up to two times by a master's student, and up to three times by a doctoral student. The recipients must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents. If there are not enough eligible candidates for the scholarship in the Department of Chemistry in any given year, the scholarship will be offered to student(s) in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, under identical eligibility selection criteria.
There is no application form; the FGSR will request the names of two nominees from the Department of Chemistry. The Graduate Scholarship Committee will make the final selection. In the event that an insufficient number of eligible students are nominated by the Department of Chemistry, the FGSR will request additional names from the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology.
