Many virologists and immunologists had predicted a possible pandemic very similar to what the world is experiencing today; however, governments and citizens were ill prepared for what has occurred. Dr. Lorne Tyrrell is one of 12 people appointed by the Government of Canada to the Vaccine Task Force (VTF), which was mandated to make recommendations on which vaccines were safe, effective, and most readily available to bring to Canadians. From nearly 200 candidate vaccines, the VTF made 7 recommendations that have provided the basis for Canada’s current vaccine supply. In this talk, Dr. Tyrrell will address concerns with vaccine safety, vaccine effectiveness, need for boosters, and vaccine hesitancy.
