Overview
Are you interested in gaining international work experience? As a student from the University of Alberta, you have the opportunity to pursue an internship in OWL, Germany. In the Alberta OWL cooperation, universities in OWL (Ostwestfalen-Lippe, Germany) and postsecondary educational institutions in Edmonton (Canada) work together to exchange and develop knowledge. The focus of the cooperation is on interdisciplinary close collaboration in research, industry, and in learning.
Internships are offered at one of the faculties at Bielefeld University, Paderborn University, Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences(HSBI), OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts or with companies in the region.
What the program has to offer;
- This program offers undergraduate and graduate students research and industry work placements in a wide variety of areas at our partner universities in Bielefeld.
- The internship will be in English, however, basic knowledge of German would be an advantage.
- As an intern, you will receive support from the universities to help you settle in, get acquainted with the German language and culture, and make the most of your stay in OWL.
When Can I Go?
Terms Offered: Winter, Summer, Fall
Duration: Variable (normally 3-6 months but can be flexible to fit with co-op/work term schedules)

Level: Senior Undergraduate (3rd or 4th year) and Master's students

This program offers undergraduate and graduate students research and industry work placements in a wide variety of areas at our partner universities in Bielefeld.
Internships may be available in ALL disciplines. Internships are collected from researchers and industry partners that work with all faculties in the OWL consortium.
If you don't see a current opportunity that aligns with your program and interests you are encouraged to chat with the International Internship Advisor as an internship in your area may still be possible.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis - it is advisable to apply 6 months before you intend to travel to allow adequate time to secure placement, accommodation, and any necessary travel visas. If you are an international student studying at the UofA you may want to apply even earlier as the visa process to complete an internship in Germany will take longer.
