Faculty Awards
Many U of A Faculties offer awards for education abroad, the awards below are administered on behalf of the Faculties by the Education Abroad Program. To apply for these awards, please apply through Horizons for the Education Abroad Individual Award by the deadline and you will be automatically considered if you meet the eligibility requirements (also listed below).
NOTE: Students are eligible to receive an award through the Education Abroad Program and an award through their Faculty.
ALES Bar None International Experience Award

To be considered, students must:
- be a student registered in a University of Alberta degree program in the Faculty of ALES at the undergraduate or graduate level;
- be participating in a Faculty-approved formal exchange program, international study abroad program, international internship, or practicum opportunity in a developing country;
- have completed a minimum of *12 credits of UAlberta coursework by the application deadline;
- have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (satisfactory academic standing).
Selection based on demonstrated leadership qualities in extracurricular and community activities, academic standing and demonstrated expected benefit of study and/or research opportunity. Preference will be given to student(s) who will be engaging in an agricultural or environmental field experience program.
The Award for Undergraduate Exchange

To be considered, students must:
- be a student registered in a University of Alberta undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of ALES;
- be participating in a Faculty-approved formal exchange program, international study abroad program, international internship, or practicum opportunity in a developing country;
- have completed a minimum of *12 credits of UAlberta coursework by the application deadline;
- have a minimum GPA of 3.3.
Recipient will be selected on the basis of:
- interest in national/international affairs
- the ability to be a good ambassador for the University and Canada
- leadership ability
The Agriculture Class of 1962 Travel Award
Value: $1,000 (to be confirmed by the Student Awards Office)

To be considered, students must:
- be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
- be a student registered in a University of Alberta undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of ALES;
- be in the third or fourth year of their program at the time of the program abroad;
- be participating in a formal University of Alberta international study, research, or internship program.
- have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (satisfactory academic standing).
Selection based on demonstrated expected benefit of the study and/or research opportunity. Preference given to a student in the Agriculture, Agricultural/Food Business Management, or Animal Health program.
The Kelly-Kennelly Bar None International Undergraduate Award

- be a student registered in a University of Alberta undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of ALES;
- be in the second, third or fourth year of their program at the time of the program abroad;
- be participating in a formal University of Alberta international study, research, or internship program managed by the Education Abroad Program.
- have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (satisfactory academic standing).
Selection based on demonstrated leadership qualities in extracurricular and community activities, the potential to promote the University of Alberta as determined in the application, and the proposed international program to be undertaken.
The Myrna and Allen Snart Bar None International Undergraduate Scholarship

- be a student registered in a University of Alberta undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of ALES;
- be in the third or fourth year of their program at the time of the program abroad;
- be participating in a formal University of Alberta international study, research, or internship program managed by the Education Abroad Program;
- have a minimum GPA of 3.5.
Selection based on demonstrated leadership qualities in extracurricular and community activities, the potential to promote the University of Alberta as determined in the application, and the proposed international program to be undertaken.
The Ulean and Eudoxia Kushnirevs'ka-Tkachenko Travel Bursary

The Fogolâr Furlan D'Edmonton Award

Canadian Summer School in Germany 35th Anniversary Award

- be participating in the Canadian Summer School in Germany (CSSG) study abroad program in Kassel, Germany;

Selection based on academic standing, indicated financial need and demonstrated involvement in extracurricular and community activities.
Felix Wiese Memorial Award

Henry James and Muriel Rieger Memorial Award to Education Abroad

- be a student registered in a University of Alberta undergraduate degree program in the Augustana Faculty;
- be participating in the Cuba Study Abroad Program through Augustana.
- have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (satisfactory academic standing).

The GCCIR Experience Abroad Award
Value: $2,500 (to be confirmed by the Student Awards Office)

To be considered, students must:
- be a student registered in the second, third or fourth year of a University of Alberta undergraduate degree program in Business or Science at Campus Saint-Jean;
- be participating in a Faculty-approved program to study in French in France;
- have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (satisfactory academic standing).

The George Lingle Global Citizenship Travel Award

To be considered, students must:
- be a student registered in a University of Alberta undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of Education;
- be registered in a Faculty of Education course with an international experience component (examples include international sections of EDFX 490, 425 or 450);
- have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (satisfactory academic standing).
Selection based on the student's demonstration, in the essay portion of the award application, of exceptional understanding of the potential connections between the course and their personal and professional life, and academic standing.
The Khoo-Choy Travel Award in Education

To be considered, students must:
- be a student registered in a University of Alberta undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of Education;
- be participating in an International Advanced Field Experience through the Faculty of Education;
- have a minimum GPA of 2.0 (satisfactory academic standing).
Selection based on academic standing and demonstrated impact of participating in an International Advanced Field Experience. Preference given to students with limited international travel experience.
The Kinesiology and Recreation Golden Anniversary International Travel Scholarship

To be considered, students must:
- be a student registered in a University of Alberta undergraduate or graduate degree program in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport and Recreation;
- be participating in faculty approved travel for research or study abroad.
- have a minimum GPA of 3.5.
Selection based on academic standing, and demonstrated expected benefit of the research or study abroad opportunity.

Student Loans
Students participating in University of Alberta education abroad programs remain registered at UAlberta so they are eligible for Alberta and Canada student loans. Check with your provincial student loan office.

Yuichi Kurimoto Award for Japan Business Students
Bachelor of Commerce students may be eligible for a fully funded experience participating in Exchange or Summer Programs in Japan. Eligible programs through the Education Abroad Programs are as follows:

Only Bachelor of Commerce students are eligible for this award.
