Undergraduate Scholarships

The University of Alberta awards over $40 million in undergraduate scholarships each year, so whether you're a scholastic achiever, community leader or well-rounded student, we've got an award fit for you.

The undergraduate scholarships and awards are available for current UAlberta students and students at the end of their degree program, as well as those entering a professional program, an after-degree program or applying to transfer from another post-secondary institution. 

New this year: Awards Hub

Applying for awards has never been easier with the new Awards Hub. Students can use the Awards Hub to complete award applications, submit references (when required) and manage award offers in one place. Awards and Scholarships

Undergraduate Awards
Recognizes top achieving students based on academic standing and/or exceptional leadership through school and community involvement.
Graduating Awards
Awarded to top students graduating from their faculty or program.
Professional Entrance Awards
Awarded to students entering a professional program (Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Law, Medical Laboratory Science, Radiation therapy).
After-degree or Post-secondary Transfer Awards
Awarded to students entering an after-degree program or transferring from another post-secondary institution.
First Nations, Métis and Inuit Awards
Various awards specific to First Nations, Métis and Inuit students.

Eligibility

Depending on the scholarship or award, selection will be based on academic standing and/or demonstrated exceptional leadership. Secondary criteria may include but are not limited to; financial need, residency, extracurricular activities and/or previous award funding. Funding levels vary annually and selection is competitive. Meeting the base eligibility requirements does not guarantee an offer.

  • To be considered for academic scholarships, applicants must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a minimum of 24 credits over the most recent September to April period.
  • To be considered for leadership awards, applicants must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a full-time course load over the most recent September to April period.
  • To be considered for scholarships and awards funded by the Government of Alberta applicants must be an Alberta Resident as defined by the Alberta Scholarship Act.
  • To be considered for continuing scholarships and awards, applicants must be continuing full-time in an undergraduate or professional program at the University of Alberta in September 2023 and January 2024.
  • To be considered for graduating scholarships and awards, applicants must be graduating from an undergraduate or professional program at the University of Alberta.
  • Applicants with accessibility accommodations registered with the Dean of Students will be assessed based on their individually approved course load requirements.
  • To be considered for professional entrance or transfer scholarships, applicants must present an admission average that meets or exceeds those required for a specific scholarship.
  • The total value of scholarships and awards already received by an applicant may be considered in the selection for these competitions.
  • Prizes are awarded to top students in a course or set of courses.  No application is required as students are automatically considered in conjunction with faculties where needed. 

Notification

The Office of the Registrar will notify all applicants at the end of August. These applications could also be used for the duration of the upcoming academic year as new funding presents itself.
