Ceremony Details

Group of grads standing for graduation ceremony

University of Alberta convocation ceremonies are held at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, located at 11455 87 Ave.

Details for Fall Convocation 2022 are based on COVID-19 public health restrictions as of August 2022. Any changes to these restrictions prior to the convocation ceremonies in November could affect some of these details. Updates will be posted to this webpage as they become available.

Given concerns about COVID we ask that you do not shake hands when crossing the stage but rather place your hand over your heart (right hand over the left side of your chest) as acknowledgement.

Guest tickets

Please note the following information regarding graduand guest tickets is based on COVID 19 public health restrictions as of August 2022. If the restrictions change, the University reserves the right to make changes to the number of guest tickets allocated.

Guest tickets are reserved for graduands who advise us of their intention to attend the ceremony. There is no cost associated with guest tickets.

As a graduand, you are eligible for up to three guest tickets, in addition to your own ticket. Every person, including babies and toddlers, will need their own guest ticket. Distribution of guest tickets will occur at the Bookstore when you pick up your Convocation packet.

As the number of available guest tickets is projected according to past attendance records, the actual number of additional seats available is not known until graduands pick up their tickets. The Office of the Registrar therefore reserves the right to change the number of guest tickets, as required, according to graduand attendance.

Extra guest tickets

Extra tickets may become available as graduands take less than their maximum. Any tickets not distributed with convocation packets will be made available at the Box Office of the Jubilee Auditorium:

  • Shortly after 9 a.m. for the morning ceremony
  • Shortly after 2 p.m. for the afternoon ceremony

Any extra tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Given the limited seating at the Jubilee Auditorium, there is no guarantee that extra tickets will be available.

We regret that we are unable to accommodate any advance requests for extra tickets.

Location and Parking

Please plan for extra time to get to Convocation. There are construction projects on campus that may affect access to parking and campus will be busy with many other students and their families heading to Convocation.

University of Alberta Convocation ceremonies are held at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium located at 11455 87 Ave.

Parking is available in the Jubilee Carpark located adjacent to the Jubilee Auditorium. Surface parking is available on the south side. A parking fee will be charged during the ceremony. See Parking Lot locations for parking rates and more parking options.

Accessibility

If you or any of your guests require sign language interpreting services or special seating (i.e. wheelchair seating) please contact the Convocation and Ceremonies office before Friday, November 4, 2022.
