Dr. Lisa White is currently a Professional Engineer and Industrial Professor within the School of Engineering Safety and Risk Management in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta. Lisa currently delivers Leadership in Engineering Safety courses to over 500 engineering students a year from a variety of disciplines at the senior undergraduate and graduate level, as well as professional short courses in the petroleum, chemical, and civil disciplines. Her engineering specialties include Risk Management Planning, Strategic Environmental Assessment, Policy Development, and Incident Investigation (including Root Cause Analysis, Scenario Development, What-If Analysis, and Cause and Effect Analysis). Dr. White holds a Ph.D. from the School of Environment and Sustainability at the University of Saskatchewan in the area of Strategic Environmental Assessment for Sustainable Resource Development and Planning. Lisa also holds an Engineering M.Sc. in the assessment of surface and groundwater contamination potential from point source pollutants. 

Dr. White has over 15 years of government and consulting experience related to policy development, environmental risk assessment, site assessment, impact assessment, and environmental regulatory compliance. Some highlights of Lisa's project experience includes Safety and Risk Management Policy Development for Women Building Futures; a Strategic Environmental Assessment for Parks Canada assessing the cumulative environmental impact of industrial development surrounding the Wood Buffalo National Park in Northern Alberta; an environmental risk assessment for Alberta Transportation for a school expansion project; a pre-feasibility study for a new commuter bridge over the North Saskatchewan River; and an environmental impact assessment for a bioethanol plant in Saskatchewan.

Lisa is the co-chair of WISEST (Women in Scholarship, Engineering, Science and Technology) and the lead for the External Relations Committee of WISEST. She is also a Technical Advisor for the Student Group Safety Committee and the Student Group Safety Leadership Team within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta.
