Open House is the largest recruitment event for the University of Alberta, welcoming thousands of guests to campus! Open House Ambassadors (OHAs) are an integral part of this exciting event, supporting in several ways:

  • Welcoming guests to campus
  • Guiding guests to various locations
  • Registering guests for events
  • Answering questions about Open House
  • Sharing the best of the U of A
  • Making Open House an amazing event!

All current students are welcome to apply to be an OHA, regardless of any previous experience with Open House or the UAlberta Ambassador Program. To apply for this opportunity, you must be available on the following dates:

  • Open House Training: Wednesday, October 12 from 5 - 7 p.m. OR Friday, October 14 from 5 - 7 p.m.
  • Open House: Saturday, October 15 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

What is a UAlberta Ambassador?

UAlberta Ambassadors are student volunteers who help show past, present, and future members of the U of A community why our institution is a great place to be. They represent our university in a variety of ways, including leading in-person and virtual tours and assisting with in-person and virtual events.


Why become a UAlberta Ambassador?

The UAlberta Ambassador Program is a lot of fun, but it also provides a number of benefits and opportunities that will serve you throughout your university career and beyond:

  • Become more involved with your campus community.
  • Attend networking and social events, and gain lasting friendships.
  • Take advantage of professional development and leadership opportunities.
  • Enhance your public speaking and communication skills.
  • Join internal committees (Action Teams) to help plan and run ambassador events.

Ambassador Roles and Responsibilities

There are two types of positions within the UAlberta Ambassador Program:

UAlberta Ambassador

This position is suitable for current students who want to get involved and share their passion for the U of A with others! Volunteering an average of three hours per week, you will participate in:

  • Campus Tours: Lead virtual Campus Tours and Lister Residence Tours, as part of the Campus Visit Program. Share your experience as a U of A student with prospective students and their families, as well as teachers, counsellors, alumni, and the general public.
  • Community Engagement: Represent the U of A at virtual events throughout the year facilitated by various campus partners. Assist with engaging experiences for prospective students at Open House, the largest recruitment event of the year.
  • Supporting Students: Help current and prospective students navigate the U of A experience. Share your insights on student life at the U of A with high school students and answer their questions using our new virtual platform, Unibuddy! Be a welcoming face in the Student Service Centre to support current students and guests with their needs.
Senior UAlberta Ambassador

This position is suitable for current UAlberta Ambassadors or students who have significant volunteer experience at the U of A and are wanting to expand those skills while sharing their passion for their university with others! Volunteering an average of five hours per week, you will participate in campus tours and community engagement, as well as:

  • Program Support: Help recruit, interview, and train UAlberta Ambassadors and provide leadership at university-wide events throughout the year. You will work closely with staff to ensure the continual development and improvement of the program.
  • Team Leadership: Support, mentor, and coach a team of UAlberta Ambassadors by leading meetings, providing professional development, and organizing community-building events. Develop these skills via specialized virtual and in-person leadership training with your fellow Senior UAlberta Ambassadors.
In addition to the availability requirements listed in the Mandatory Dates section, Senior UAlberta Ambassadors must also be available the last week of August for complementary training sessions.

Program Requirements

UAlberta Ambassadors and Senior UAlberta Ambassadors must be:

  • Current students in good academic standing (minimum 2.0 GPA);
  • Comfortable with public speaking;
  • Able to commit a minimum of three to five hours per month;
  • Dedicated to building community at the U of A.

Mandatory Dates

The UAlberta Ambassador Program is a year-long volunteer commitment, from May 2022 to April 2023. Exceptions can be made for students who are participating in study abroad, co-op, or practicum placements for part of the year. There are a number of events that UAlberta Ambassadors will be required to support throughout the year. Accommodations can be made for academic commitments and will be assessed on a case by case basis. Before you apply, please check your calendar to ensure you are available.
