Community Connect Program

Research Ambassadors

Community Connect (CC) Research Ambassadors reach out to schools, community organizations, non-for-profits, industry, or other agencies, to share their academic work with the public. To be a Research Ambassador, it is pivotal to understand how best to communicate with a wide range of audiences. 


This may include different:

  • age groups

  • education levels

  • socio-economic backgrounds

  • interests and curiosities

  • gender and/or orientation

  • cultures

  • disabilities


To understand best practices when communicating your research, these demographics are important to consider. Think: who is your audience, and what would they want to know? What is it about my research that would interest them? 


Identifying your audience is the first step in reaching out to the community. Once you’ve envisioned who you will be speaking to, you can access our Community Connect Research Ambassadors Toolkit for more information.

On September 26, 2019 join us for a Research Ambassador training session from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. in Triffo Hall 1-16. Please RSVP.

This session may be used towards the University of Alberta Professional Development Requirement, which includes an individualized career plan document called an Individual Development Plan (IDP) and the completion of eight hours of professional development activities inspired by your career plan.  All ethics and professional development sessions or activities must be approved by your department/faculty.
