Graduate Student Teaching Awards

It is time to Celebrate!
The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2023 Graduate Student Teaching Awards which recognize the outstanding teaching of graduate students. These awards would not be possible without the support from departments and faculties. We invite you to join us for a reception on May 9 from 2:30 - 4:00 in the Education North 4th Floor Atrium.
The 2023 Graduate Student Teaching Awards are reinstated and faculties are eligible to submit nominees for each of the years 2022, 2021, and 2020 using the allocations identified. Faculties will follow the existing adjudication process described in UAPPL until a full review of the recommendations by the Provost’s EDI Review of Teaching Awards Working Group can be made.
Two changes that FGSR supports to put into practice immediately that align with the EDI review are:
- Nomination Process: To allow students to self-nominate to their department in addition to departmental recommendations.
- Nomination Package Eligibility: To include a broader view of what encompasses teaching. The existing policy recognizes a more traditional view of “teaching in a classroom.” We would encourage the definition of teaching to include leadership in teaching, curriculum development, innovation in on-line teaching, Indigenous activities that promote learning in the academic setting, and various other teaching support roles.
