To ensure that university technology is kept up to date, Information Services and Technology (IST) will be upgrading all university computers that are still running soon to be obsolete versions of Windows 10 OS.

This upgrade will be automatically deployed to affected computers, and will require little action on your part. The upgrades will begin Friday, July 24 and roll out over the next few weeks.

This upgrade will benefit the university by making your computer more secure, and ensure you have all of the latest features that Windows 10 has to offer.

What do I need to do?

To help IST ensure this project is successful, please inform your staff and faculty of the upgrades and encourage them to backup their data as a precaution. Although it is not required for this upgrade, performing a backup is always recommended as a good measure to practice. To facilitate this upgrade, there are just a few simple steps you will need to take:

  1. Save and close all of your work.
  2. Backup your computer to the network or Google Drive.
  3. If you use Google Chrome, please sign in and sync your bookmarks.
  4. Log off your computer and leave it powered on.
  5. You will not be able to log on to your computer while it is being upgraded. The process will take a minimum of two hours.
  6. Your computer WILL restart.
  7. Once your computer has restarted, you will be able to log in remotely again.
