Video/Web Conferencing & Lecture Recording
You have a need to share information, and we have the expertise and resources to see it through. Whether you want to bring distanced students into a class, have a guest present remotely from abroad, capture your live lecture, or pre-record it for later viewing, IST can provide the training, equipment, and on-site or on-call assistance to help your session run smoothly. We’ll take care of the technology, so you can focus on the class.
We can also provide support for bringing remote examiners into candidacy exams and thesis defenses and assist staff with joining department meetings online.
We offer full support for two conferencing platforms, all of which allow computer audio and video, chat, screen/content sharing, and have recording capabilities. You may wish to use another platform that you are more familiar with, however we may only be able to provide limited support. Explore these platforms and their features:

There are a few rooms on North Campus dedicated to web conferencing, that are equipped with a PC, camera, and microphone. Please contact IST for more information if you're interested in booking one of these rooms.
For IP-based video conferencing (Polycom, LifeSize, Telehealth), dedicated hardware in a room, or on a cart is typically needed. IST has one room (Telus 145) and one cart (ECHA) on campus that can be booked based on first-come, first-served basis, and technician availability.
Teleconferencing
Teleconferencing provides users with convenience and flexibility to connect with a group of people by voice, regardless of where meeting attendees are based. Most University of Alberta telephones are able to connect with up to six users, providing you with conferencing capabilities through one convenient phone call.
IST has several VoIP teleconference phones (Voice Over Internet Protocol), however there are still a few locations using traditional landlines (PBX) which will not work for teleconferencing.
Before booking equipment, be sure you have a meeting space secured. IST is not responsible for booking meeting rooms.
