Insurance Policies

Insurance policies enable you to make a significant, lasting gift to Augustana with a minimal outlay of current savings or income. Making the University of Alberta the beneficiary or the beneficiary and owner of an insurance policy will provide you with different benefits.

By making the University the beneficiary of a policy, your estate will be issued a charitable gift receipt. The proceeds from life insurance policies may be directed to the Augustana project or fund you have personally selected. By taking out a new life insurance policy with the University designated as the beneficiary and owner, you will receive a charitable gift receipt for the policy premiums you pay each year.

Benefits to the donor of naming the University as an insurance policy beneficiary:

  • Your estate is provided with a charitable gift receipt.
  • You can designate how the policy proceeds are to be used by the University.

Benefits to the donor if the University is the beneficiary and owner of a new or existing policy:

  • You are entitled to a charitable gift receipt for the cash value of the policy (if any) and for all premiums paid.
  • You can designate how the policy proceeds are to be used by the University.
