Year of study: 3

Faculty, Program/Area of study: Bachelor of Science (Specialization), Psychology

What do you like about your program?

I studied my first two years in Neuroscience and transferred into psychology this year. I really love learning about the mind and how people’s personalities, and experiences interact to shape who they are and how they behave. I liked neuroscience but realized that I’m more passionate about psychology.

What is one hot tip for student success?

My advice is to make sure that you’re taking care of yourself and recognizing your needs outside of school. It’s easy to get caught up in academics and forget to take care of yourself, and whether it’s making sure you’re getting enough sleep or socializing, it’s important to prioritize yourself.

What are your interests/passions/hobbies?

I love animals, cooking, dancing, and watching TV. I’m passionate about mental health. Being chronically ill, prioritizing my health, and balancing this with school is especially important to me. I am also a member of the LGBT community and am passionate about equality including sexual orientation, gender, race, and religion.

What do you like about your program?

Simply put, I believe that the core of meaningful impact stems from education. As I discover more about how I want to move through the world, I have had to constantly learn, unlearn and relearn certain behaviours. Similarly, I hope to create a strong foundation of leaders for future generations.

What is one hot tip for student success?

It all starts with creating robust habits that work for you, whether that includes studying everyday for a set amount of time, sleeping at the same time or creating flashcards for every class. Work on one habit, change it up if you need to and move onto the next one.

Year of study: 4

Faculty, Program/Area of study: ALES, Nutrition and Food Sciences

What do you like about your program?

Because eating clearly important in sustaining life, everything I learn is very applicable even as a student! I don't need to be in the profession to take care of my friends and family! I also love how many of my courses implement a way for students to work with the community so we are able to not only grow in knowledge, but experience as well!

What is one hot tip for student success?

Schedule in breaks the same way you would schedule in time to do work! And during that time, make sure you leave all work aside and focus on relaxing! Systematic breaks may sound kind of sad and maybe even robotic ( it did to me when I first started doing it) but I find that it really boosts productivity when you work towards a goal ( a break), and when you are feeling re-energized after it! Oh and make sure you get enough sleep!! All-nighters are the most overrated thing and we can have a lengthy discussion together if you would like to convince me otherwise.

What are your interests/passions/hobbies?

Everything I love to do relates with my friends somehow, so you could say I am very passionate about being with the people I love c: Other things I find joy in though are dance, baked goods, music, drawing, watching shows, and playing games. I'm also about to get a hamster soon, so I've been very into anything hamster related recently!
