Student Advisory Committee


Are you interested in having a voice and a role in Military and Veteran student services offered at the University of Alberta? We are looking for current students who are Veterans or current Serving Members, as well as a few alumni to join our Military and Veteran Student Advisory Committee.

As a member, you will have the opportunity to provide feedback and input on Military and Veteran Friendly Campus activities and initiatives that directly impact current and future students. The MVFC Student Advisory Committee also acts as a resource and focus group for various campus programs and services that support or contribute to the successful transition of Military and Veteran students into campus and civilian life.

The MVFC Student Advisory Committee provides feedback and advice on topics such as:

  • Services that should be available
  • External stakeholders that should be included
  • Identifying best ways to connect with other Veterans
  • Determining workshop and information session topics
  • Building peer support opportunities
  • Supporting and engaging in campus community recreational activities and sports
  • Career support
  • Outlining key Navigation supports required during transition

These are just some of the activities and feedback that the MVFC Student Advisory Committee will participate in.

Join us to gain valuable experience in a committee setting and build relationships with university staff and other Military and Veteran students who are passionate about supporting this initiative.

Committee Membership Commitment and Details

  • A time commitment of 1-2 hours per month from October to April is required. Unless otherwise noted, meetings will be held in person monthly during the academic year. 
  • Committee member positions are available on a one year term (October - April) and can be renewed with expressed interest.
  • Membership should consist of the following:
  • Committee Chair (MVFC Team Member)
  • 3-5 (minimum) Current Veteran students
  • 3-5 (minimum) Current Serving Members, ideally from both the Reserves and Regular Forces
  • 1-2 Alumni if possible
