International Quarantine Support Grant

As part of the University of Alberta’s commitment to support students during the COVID-19 pandemic, international students may be eligible for an International Quarantine Support Grant of $500 (arrival prior to July 23) or $700 (arrival July 23 or after) to offset expenses related to mandatory quarantine requirements upon entry to Canada. Additional amounts up to $150 may be available to students traveling to Canada with minor dependents (children under the age of 18).

Eligibility

The International Quarantine Support Grant is available to international students who have experienced an increase in financial need due to the requirement to quarantine upon entry to Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Students must be traveling directly from outside Canada, with Alberta as their final destination, between April 1 and December 31, 2021.
  • Students must be on a study permit or have been approved for a study permit and be enrolled in any year of an undergraduate or graduate degree program.
  • Students must be registered in one of the University of Alberta’s isolation programs before leaving their home country.
  • Students must be required to quarantine in accordance with Government of Canada regulations. Note that starting July 6, 2021, fully vaccinated asymptomatic travellers entering Canada, including international students, will not be subject to the federal requirement to quarantine or take a COVID-19 test on day-8. More information about this can be found on University of Alberta International's news page.
