University of Alberta Undergraduate Academic Scholarships and Leadership Awards

  • These academic scholarships are designed to recognize and reward top-achieving students based on their previous academic year.
  • These leadership awards are designed to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional leadership involvement through university and community activities.

Government of Alberta Undergraduate Academic Scholarships and Leadership Awards

  • These academic scholarships are designed to recognize and reward students for their academic achievements and encourage them to continue their undergraduate program of study.
  • These leadership awards are designed to recognize and reward students who have demonstrated outstanding dedication and leadership to fellow students and to their community.
  • These scholarships and awards are funded by the Government of Alberta and are administered by the University of Alberta in conjunction with Alberta Student Aid.

Eligibility

Depending on the scholarship or award, selection will be based on academic standing and/or demonstrated outstanding leadership. Secondary criteria may include but are not limited to; financial need, residency, extracurricular activities and/or previous award funding. Funding levels vary annually and selection is competitive.

  • To be considered for academic scholarships applicants must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a minimum of 30 credits over the most recent September to April period.
  • To be considered for leadership awards applicants must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a full-time course load over the most recent September to April period.
  • To be considered for scholarships and awards funded by the Government of Alberta applicants must be an Alberta Resident as defined by the Alberta Scholarship Act.
  • Applicants entering pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, law, or an after-degree program are eligible and will be assessed on the basis of their admission average, regardless of previous institution attended or time off between degree programs.
  • All applicants must be continuing full-time in an undergraduate or professional program at the University of Alberta in September 2020 and January 2021 to be eligible to receive scholarships or awards.
  • Applicants registered with Student Accessibility Services will be assessed based on their individually approved course load requirements.
  • The total value of scholarships and awards already received by an applicant may be taken into consideration in selection for these competitions.

Notification

The Office of the Registrar will notify all applicants at the end of July. These applications could also be used for the duration of the upcoming academic year as new funding presents itself.
