Host an Intern

Faculty members interested in hosting an intern during summer or winter should submit a proposal for a research project. Projects are accepted from all Faculties in all disciplines.

Why submit a project?

  • International exposure for your research
  • $6,000 CAD financial support for students
    • $4,000 CAD is funded centrally
    • $2,000 CAD commitment from the UAlberta faculty member or department
  • Support for graduate student recruitment
  • Research project is showcased at a poster symposium
  • Administrative and program assistance provided by UAI

Notice for Faculty of Arts professors

The Faculty of Arts has committed to funding up to 12 UARE research projects per year. Allocation is on a first come, first served basis.

Submitting a project

UAI will be collecting projects from UAlberta faculty members for the 2019 UARE Summer program starting in August 2018.

Placement Process & Important Dates (UARE Summer 2019)

August 1 – September 9

UAlberta professors submit projects to UAI

September 15 – October 14

Students from partner institutions apply to projects

October 15 – October 28

Preliminary eligibility screening of applicants

October 28 – November 11

Ranking of eligible applicants by project supervisors

November 12 – December 24

Internship offers sent to selected applicants

(Offers expire if no confirmation is received within 1 week)

1 week after offer is confirmed by intern

Invitation Letter, Pay Action Form, Registration Form are drafted by UAI and emailed to host supervisor

Upon receipt of authorized Invitation Letter from host supervisor (and department)

Immigration instructions and required documentation sent to selected applicants

May 6 OR July 2

Summer internships begin (start date may be flexible, depending on supervisor)
