Violinissimo VI: H. W. Ernst & O. Bull

February 10, 2023
7:30 PM | Convocation Hall

Violinist Guillaume Tardif continues to explore with pianist Roger Admiral the repertoire of violinist-composers (Violinissimo series).  This time, their focus is on two prominent 19th-century violinists who witnessed Niccolo Paganini and emulated his virtuosity: Ole Bull from Norway, and Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst, from Bohemia. The program will also draw attention to these artists' significant influence on the next generation of Romantic composers - notably, on Grieg, Liszt, and Schumann.

Grieg | Sonata in c minor no. 3

Bull | Adagio Religioso and Polacca Guerriera

Ernst | Concerto in F sharp minor "Pathetique" and Rondo "Papageno"

Schumann | Fantasy op. 131 (arr. Kreisler)

This concert is a part of the Department of Music's 2022-2023 "Faculty & Friends" Series.
