Features:

  • The University of Vienna was founded by Duke Rudolph IV in 1365.
  • It is the oldest university in the German-speaking world and one of the largest in Central Europe.
  • Roughly one quarter of students are non-Austrians, more than 2,000 exchange students are welcomed and supported at the University each year.
  • Conversely, the University assists the mobility of around 1,000 outgoing students.
  • It is associated with 15 Nobel prize winners and has been the academic home of a large number of figures both of historical and academic importance.
  • The University of Vienna does not have one joint campus. The academic facilities occupy more than sixty locations throughout the city of Vienna.

Course Information

Language of Instruction: English, German (Students wanting to take courses taught in German must possess at least a CEFR B2 or equivalent level of German proficiency.  For students studying German Studies at the University of Vienna, the new required level of German is CEFR C1.)

Field of Study: All

Most University of Vienna courses are offered in German. The following departments usually also offer at least some courses in English: Biology, Business, Law, English and American Studies, History, Politicial Science, Anthropology and Philosophy (there may be others). Courses taught in English are marked with a blue button labelled "en" in their online course catalogue u:find. It has 17 program offerings at the graduate level in English.
