Your virtual residence experience

Connecting you to your community

Get to know your residence community through Expedition:Connect, our online cohort experience. This program connects residents with key residence events, updates, and their peers.

Expedition:Connect supports your academic success while connecting you to all the resources, friends and leadership opportunities that make life in residence great.

How does Expedition:Connect work?

Expedition:Connect is your central hub for all things residence life: programming, staying up to date on information from your student leaders, and academic and non-academic cohorts. Students who participate in Expedition: Connect will gain access to programming targeted to support university life.

Expedition:Connect integrates our highly successful BaseCamp and Ascent residence orientations

It's part of our Peer Tutor Program and Engage Edmonton service learning opportunities, too.

Take part in Expedition:Connect even before you arrive

All students living in residence or moving into residence for Fall 2022 will receive an email with access to the Expedition:Connect platform in early August, 2022, letting you meet new people and experience residence before the semester even starts.

Cohort communities

Students both on campus and yet to arrive can join cohort communities based on their academics and interests—so embrace the diverse sense of community that makes residence great!

Academic cohort communities

Join an academic cohort community based on your program of study and facilitated by upper year student staff. Academic cohort leaders will plan monthly academic programs, host study sessions and provide faculty-based support and advice for students. This year, our Academic cohorts are not location based, so all first year students have access to this support. Whether you are in Lister or East Campus, you can opt into our Cohort communities through Expedition: Connect. Learn more about what academic cohort options are available by visiting our Cohorts, Faculty Floors, and Lifestyle Communities.

If you're interested in networking with your faculty, participating in degree planning and academic-based programming that supports your career, or simply want to connect with peers who are taking similar courses, apply to be a part of an academic cohort!

Non-academic cohort communities

Expedition: Connect also features a variety of non-academic cohort communities which students can apply to join, further connecting you to the peers, supports, resources and programming that matters to you.

Non-academic cohorts feature a variety of interests and values with an aim to address the unique needs of our diverse residence community. Get to know students living in residence or participating virtually in Expedition: Connect and learn about resources, events and supports that are specific to your topic of choice.

These cohorts are led by passionate upper year students who are actively involved in the community they are fostering. Social Justice & Leadership, LGBTQ2S+, International student cohort and First Nations, Metis and Inuit student cohort are just some examples of the non-academic cohorts you can join this year! Visit our Cohorts, Faculty Floors, and Lifestyle Communities for more information.

How to enrol in Expedition: Connect

All students who live in residence or move into residence this Fall 2022 are automatically enrolled in Expedition:Connect. It can be found through the eClass portal.

Who will be in my virtual residence community?

You can choose the communities that are the best fit for you. In addition to the opportunities and programs that are available to everyone, Expedition: Connect also offers you the chance to connect with peers based on your faculty, year of study, interests and more.

The diverse group of people you meet in residence is a key part of the experience, and we are committed to helping engage all students. We also know that getting to know your neighbours helps you feel at home—that’s why students who move into residence this fall will be connected both online and in-person with their community and their RA.
