The University of Alberta is committed to providing accommodation that reflects highly valued sustainability initiatives such as conserving energy and water, as well as recycling. As such, products including fluorescent lights, ultra low flush toilets and motion sensors have been installed wherever possible in residence.

Treat the environment with the respect it deserves and reduce the impact of increasing utility costs on rental rates:

  • Turn the lights off when you leave a room
  • Unplug items that do not require a constant energy supply
  • If the TV is on and no one is watching it, turn it off!
  • Don't stand around with the fridge door open
  • Decrease the amount of time you spend in the shower and don't let taps run unnecessarily

Recycling in Residence

You can make a difference! You will see various recycling bins available in your residence and in all campus buildings. Each colour corresponds to a certain type of recycling. Please be sure to sort all of your waste. If incorrect items are placed in recycle or compost bins, the entire bin may be contaminated, which means it may have to be sent to the landfill.
