MBA LIFT

Program Description

The Alberta School of Business Careers & Work Integrated Learning (CWIL) has developed the MBA LIFT Program to help companies and non-profit organizations build business solutions by harnessing the skills of our MBA students.  Our MBA students have, on average, 4-5 years of experience in their specific field, which includes a variety of industries.  In addition, they have business acumen developed throughout the program, which helps them tackle real-world business challenges.

 LIFT Project Details

  • Projects should be completed in a 3-month time frame (approx. 40-100 hr). Projects can start as early as May 15, 2023. Matching of students and organizations will occur at the end of April with specific dates provided as we move forward.
  • Projects can incorporate functions in areas of the following: strategy, accounting, finance, marketing, human resource management, economics, and more.
  • NOTE: Number of projects accepted depends on student availability.

Community Partner Expectations

  • Provide a project description to students by completing the Google Form, which includes: organization description and/or company background, a project overview, expected project deliverables, and contact information for students.
  • Monitor and provide feedback on the progress of the students with regular check-ins with the group or individual assigned to the organization.
  • Be open to connecting with staff from the CWIL Team on a regular basis for monitoring purposes.

Funding

  • This service is provided at no cost to the organization.

Team Formation

  • Teams will be built by CWIL staff and will take into consideration project, skill sets, group dynamics, level of experience for optimal group performance
  • Students will be informed of their teammates, then organizations will be connected with their groups via email

Communication

  • To students, through email
  • To organizations, via email correspondence and other industry connections
  • Regular communication once projects start with CWIL staff

Timelines

April 

  • Students and employers sign up for the program
  • Teams are created by CWIL staff and projects assigned by end of April

Early-May

  • Student workshop to launch initiative

Mid-May

  • Projects begin

August

  • Deliverables and wrap up.

Time commitment 10 - 15 hours per week

Workshop

  • Introduce groups to each other and develop a team charter and framework for working together
  • Discuss the project assignments, expectations and processes
  • Explain supports and timelines for check-ins

Support

  • CWIL staff will be conducting a monthly check in with employers and student groups
  • Groups will have access to an assigned coach for group coaching meetings as needed
