For Supervisors

Supervising Safely: HSE Professional Development

While the health, safety, and environment training for supervisors is a legal requirement in the province of Alberta, the main reason for this professional development is the continued protection of our workers, our students, and our research and teaching. Supervisors at the University are responsible for providing a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace. The Supervising Safely: Supervisory HSE Professional Development program is mandatory training for all who are in supervisory positions at the U of A and has been designed to provide supervisors with the information they need to fulfill supervisory responsibilities in accordance with University policy and procedures, and applicable legislation and regulations.

What defines a supervisor? A supervisor is someone who directs the work of others, has authority over the work of others and/or is in charge of a work site. Even temporary delegation of supervisory responsibilities requires the individual who is temporarily performing supervisory duties to have this training.
