UAlberta International has a friendly team of professionals that focus on various areas of work that support internationalization at UAlberta. Let's spend a few minutes getting to know Shawn, Senior International Agreements Administrator!

What different languages do you speak?
French and English. I am also quite proficient at asking for a large bottle of non-carbonated water in Ukrainian, which was a necessary skill during my two tours of the country as part of a Ukrainian dance troupe.

What's the best piece of professional advice you've ever received?
Wear a helmet while biking. Early in my legal career I was once spotted biking without a helmet, prompting a Monday morning summons to a partner's office and an ensuing lecture. It's always good to remember that taking care of yourself is the first step to success.

What do you like most about your work at UAlberta?

My work involves staying on top of a constant flow of projects from all corners of the university. The pace is engaging, but there's also satisfaction in seeing how my piece weaves into the larger projects of the university community and its work on the world stage.

What is your favourite space on UAlberta campuses and why?
While working on campus, I try to make time for a regular walk. While some of the highlights are catching an exhibit at the FAB Gallery, a music recital at Convocation Hall, or strolling along Sask Drive in springtime, I always try to swing through HUB or SUB to get a dose of that bustling campus energy.
