SLAV 399 "Wars and Peace: 10 Keys to Understanding Polish-Ukrainian Relations" (in English)
After 24 February 2022, Poland proved to be one of Ukraine's greatest friends and partners, by supporting the neighbours in the ongoing war and hosting millions of Ukrainian refugees.
This course will explain the prerequisites for this attitude and discuss the defining moments in the controversial history of the relations between the two nations.
We shall consider the key texts for both Polish and Ukrainian cultures originating from folklore, literature, art, cinema, and pop music.
One of the texts to be decoded is Warsaw itself, which was the magnet for Ukrainian migration in the 20th century and became the center of Ukrainian cultural life and volunteering activities in the 21st century.
