Outgoing Exchange Application

The following steps are meant to provide an outline of the application process. All steps must be completed in the order given. For more information or for clarification, please consult the exchange coordinator.

Step 1: Research + Preparation

Before diving into the application process, take time to:

  • Understand eligibility criteria for the Alberta School of Business exchange program.
  • Explore exchange destinations, consult coordinators, and review student experiences .
  • Discuss the impact of an exchange on your degree with your academic advisor.
  • Familiarize yourself with the Student Terms of Participation to understand program procedures and requirements.

Step 2: Formal Application

Ensure all Step 1 tasks are completed before initiating the application process, which includes:

  • Complete the Pre-application Profile Form  and submit recent U of A transcripts.
  • Schedule and attend a preliminary interview with an exchange coordinator.
  • Compile and submit the Alberta School of Business Exchange Application Package, including various documents like a Budget Form and Letter of Intent.
  • Pay the $75 CAD application fee.

  • An additional $175 CAD is due upon host institution acceptance.
  • Submit all application materials by March 1 (Summer term) or September 15 (Winter term), depending upon the exchange term applied for.

Step 3: Review + Selection

Applications are evaluated based on various factors such as academics, motivation, and extracurriculars. Early submissions may receive priority, but final selection depends on the quality and timing of the application.

Step 4: Nomination

Successful applicants are officially nominated to partner institutions based on their timelines and procedures. Be prepared for potential waiting periods between approval from the Alberta School of Business and further instructions from the host institution.

Step 5: Host Institution Application

Complete the host institution's application process, which varies in complexity. Submission deadlines must be adhered to, with materials often sent through the Alberta School of Business International Office.

Step 6: Formal Admission + Exchange Registration

Upon acceptance, obtain a formal Letter of Acceptance from the host institution and apply for transfer credit approval. Pay the second exchange fee ($175) and complete the exchange registration and visa application processes promptly.

Step 7: Pre-departure

Ensure all transfer credit approvals are finalized and tuition payments are made. Complete pre-departure forms, arrange insurance and vaccinations, and register with the Off-Campus Travel Registry for safety.

Step 8: While Abroad on Exchange

Stay connected with exchange and program offices for guidance and support. Notify your program office of any course registration changes and provide necessary details for credit reassessment. Review additional information.

Step 9: Upon Return from Exchange

Request transcripts from the host institution and submit a concise written report sharing your experiences. Contribute to program promotion and advising efforts and stay involved in enhancing the international culture of the School of Business.

MBA Double Degree Participants must ensure timely submission of necessary documents to the host institution for degree issuance post-credit transfer process.
