August 2022 Lunch & Learn Bulletin

Each month Human Resources, Health, Safety and Environment offers a number of one hour sessions devoted to the dimensions of health and well-being. In August, we examine both personal psychological hygiene and then psychological health and safety from a workplace perspective. Workplace professionalism and personal finance round out our topics.

All sessions will run from 12:00 – 1:00 pm unless noted otherwise and will be delivered online. Register through the LearnCentre by clicking register and then using the “enroll” button on the top right. Professionalism in the Workplace

Cecile Schultz, EFAP
Tuesday, August 9

People form judgments about others in the workplace based on behaviour, attitude, speech, and appearance. The impressions that individuals communicate to others (positive or negative) can help move them ahead professionally, or can slow down their career progress and even create conflict in the workplace. This session will give participants an understanding of the importance of professional behaviour in the workplace and what it involves.

Psychological Hygiene

Glen Matadeen, EFAP
Tuesday, August 16

From a very young age we adopt common physical hygiene habits such as brushing our teeth, washing our hands and taking regular showers. What about hygiene habits that focus on our mental health? This session will increase participant awareness and understanding of psychological hygiene and highlight the factors that can promote and preserve good mental health. Participants will gain practical tools and resources to activate their own personal psychological hygiene practice.

Managing Your Money

Melanie Buffel, EFAP
Wednesday, August 24

Creating a plan to manage money is a sound way to achieve goals like owning a home, travelling, getting an education, or retiring. The quote “Failing to plan is planning to fail” does apply to personal finances. This session will help participants plan for the future by providing tips on how to create a budget, decrease debt, and increase savings.

Psychological Health & Safety in the Workplace

Ronaye Coulson, EFAP
Tuesday, August 30

What is psychological health and safety and how does it connect to the workplace? What is the National Standard of Canada? What are workplace factors? In this one hour session participants will learn about the National Standard, workplace psychosocial factors and what resources are available at the University of Alberta to support psychologically safe workplaces.
