About Us

Our Story

The development of a real estate focus at the Alberta School of Business began in earnest in January of 2011. A group of real estate executives who had taught a single course prior to 2011 supported the funding of the Stan Melton Chair which brought with it the opportunity to create Alberta’s first academic real estate program.  Since then, real estate education at the school has grown significantly and serves many segments of the real estate community-including developers, investors, lenders, home builders, consultants, NGOs, and government. Under the leadership of David Dale-Johnson, the Stan Melton Executive Professor in Real Estate, students learn the full scope of the industry through academic courses, industry events, student clubs, case competitions, internships and co-ops.

Bachelor of Commerce students can pursue a Certificate in Real Estate while MBA students can complete a Stream in Real Estate. Both tracks provide graduates with a real estate focus in their studies and a skill set that allows them to take on the challenge and opportunity of working with many of the most creative and successful local, regional, national and global firms.  Our graduates have been placed with numerous entities including: AIMCo, Avison Young, Cadillac Fairview, Cameron Corporation, Canada ICI, Cantiro, CBRE, Colliers, Cushman & Wakefield, Deloitte, JLL, Melcor Developments, Omada Commercial, One Properties and The Rohit Group among others.
