Overview: |
Services Offered: This elective provides an opportunity to work with a senior dermatologist dually certified in dermatology and internal medicine. The case mix caters to advanced cases presenting with complex dermatologic conditions and dermatologic manifestations of internal disease. Many conditions are managed with multiple systemic therapies, so the student will be exposed to advanced clinical therapeutic protocols. Elective students will also be involved with assessment and selection of treatment options for patients presenting with aesthetic and corrective dermatologic issues. Therapies include injectables, lasers and energy-based devices and surgical options. Opportunities for in-depth clinical investigations will provide students with options for studies worthy of publication. |
Objectives: |
Completing this elective should: Develop the keystones of concise history-taking, physical examination skills and clinical reasoning. Critically examine clinical workflow to enhance efficiency. Increase confidence in selecting clinical therapeutics and their use in treating dermatologic conditions. Elective students are encouraged to select a clinical knowledge-based objective, a procedural workflow objective and a practice management objective. Part of the evaluation will include a McMaster-style Triple Jump exercise, conducted over four hours near the end of the elective. |
