Each University of Alberta Residency and Area of Focused Competence (AFC) Fellowship program is accredited either by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).

Accreditation is a comprehensive process with a goal to ensure the University, the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, the PGME office, and every residency and AFC fellowship program meets the Standards of Accreditation and that our trainees receive the training required in a supportive learning environment to equip them with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours to ensure not only success in certification, but excellence in practice of their specialty and discipline.

Accreditation is an opportunity to highlight our strengths and receive feedback on areas for improvement and growth. PGME’s ongoing goal is to collectively and collaboratively address all areas for improvement (AFIs) identified in internal and external reviews in a systematic approach as we seek to achieve exemplary indicators at Accreditation 2025.
