Each claim is subject to a deductible that will be the responsibility of the department. During the claim process, the adjuster will confirm the deductible with the claimant.

University-Owned Vehicles (includes those owned by departments and Transportation Services)

  • $2,500 deductible per vehicle.

Rental Vehicles (i.e. from an external rental company such as Enterprise or Budget)

  • $2,500 deductible for all perils including collision and comprehensive claims when the rental company's physical damage insurance has been declined.

  • $2,500 deductible for any property loss (eg. water damage, fire, theft).

Wildfire Claims

Unprotected remote sensing equipment, satellites, and similar unprotected equipment, whether being deployed, in use or in operation, or being retrieved or recovered anywhere including on land, under ground, under the sea, at sea, in the atmosphere, or in space, is not usually insured under the University's insurance program.

It is the department's responsibility to ensure all mobile property is removed from the line of fire and out of harm's way when notice has been received of a potential fire event and when access remains permitted by authorities. Please ensure your wild fire preparedness and emergency response plan is up to date. Download the Alberta Wildfire map and/or app to ensure you have access to current wildfire information.

In the event coverage is available, a minimum of a $5,000 deductible could be assessed to the department if it is determined that no preventative action was taken to remove mobile equipment when the opportunity existed. For more information, see the Alberta Wildfire Information page.
